Top dollar dining in Stratford upon Avon is £15/£20, $20/27US main course; for English cuisine try the 'Baracet Barn', Pimlico Lane, the 'Oppo' or 'Lambs' on Sheep Street. All enjoy a great local reputation.
It is widely believed that William Shakespeare was caught poaching on the estate belonging to Earl Lucy, near to what is now known as Hampton Lucy .
The Lucy Estate was teeming with rabbits, a popular ingredient in local cookery.
Ingredients
Soak rabbits in salt water overnight. Dry, cut up and stew rabbits with celery and onions for 2-3 hours. Add salt and pepper to taste, then strip meat from bones and put in 26-inch pie dish, add stock or gravy for moisture. Cover with biscuits. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
For gravy, take reserved stock, add bouillon, onions and celery. Bring to a boil. Strain. Mix flour with an equal amount of water, add sauce to thickening. Season to taste with spices.
Less expensive still, try 'Connolly's Deli & Bar' tiddington, the 'Mayflower' Chinese, corner High Street and Sheep Street Stratford upon Avon, very few complaints here and great value for money.
2009 saw the arrival in Stratford upon Avon of two new restaurants offering customers buffet style self service 'All you can eat for a fixed price menus'.
The Laughing Buddah on Greenhill Street offers Chinese food. Competitors 'Jimmy Spice' around the corner on Windsor Street offer a fixed price menu 'All you can eat' but with a choice of Chinese, Italian or Indian food.

Best Value, try the cafes inside Tescos supermarket, Birmingham Road,Stratford upon Avon or the cafe inside 'Morrisons Supermarket', Alcester Road Stratford upon Avon where you can enjoy a two course meal for less than £6, $8US.
At Stratford upon Avons Maybird shopping mall you will find Pizzaland , a Marks and Spencer Food only store (top marks) and a Subway Sandwich.
The quality of English food is quite good with most Brits aware of the dangers of unhealthy food. You will notice less salt and fat in food in the UK than in the US, BUT, portions are smaller !!!!

If you prefer Italian, then try,'Santa Lucia' opposite The Bell Inn in Shottery Village, a family run restaurant or 'Sorrentos', on Ely Street Stratford upon Avon.
Middle dollar dining, £10/15, $13/20US main course; Italian restaurant 'El Bertorelli', gets very good press. If you enjoy Indian food , both 'Ushas' on Meer Street and 'Alladins' of Tiddington get few complaints.
Many Stratford upon Avon pubs offer full 'English' breakfast (sausage, bacon, egg and beans) for less than four quid (a quid is a pound sterling) breakfast for just six bucks !!! Not a healthy diet but popular never the less.
